Last month, the Urban Mission, with the help of several community volunteers, offered a series of Life Skills & Empowerment classes for the men and women staying at our shelters. Every Monday through Thursday at 10am and 6pm, the Urban Mission bus would pull up to our shelters to transport our shelter guests to the War Memorial to participate in classes that touched the “head, heart and hands” of our shelter guests.
The Urban Mission is grateful to our volunteer teachers who gave of their time & talents to pour into the lives of our shelter guests:
Renee Thompson
TOR Sisters
Nancy Ronevich
Deidre Cochrane
Justin Tolman
Justice Jett
Helena Jones
Delilah Mukes
Jan Yabs
Brianna Sheets
Lauren Krawczyk
Justice Slappy
And a big Urban Mission THANK YOU to Ms. Vanessa Slappy, who served as our Education Coordinator – organizing and facilitating all 30 classes for our guests!
Reflecting on the past month, Ms. Vanessa writes, “It has been such a blessing to witness the transformation of others in a matter of an hour.”
Some of the feedback we’ve received from our students includes:
– “I can’t believe I didn’t come to these classes before. I will be back tomorrow.”
– “I needed this; it gives me hope!”
– “This has opened my eyes, thank you!”
It is the hope of the Urban Mission to continue to offer these classes to our shelter guests and our community throughout the Urban Mission campus for the years to come! If you are feeling a pull toward this type of ministry, Ms. Vanessa would love to hear from you. She can be reached at [email protected].
