Summer Work Camp
In
1990, a group of concerned believers began a project designed
to address the deteriorating housing conditions in the Steubenville.
Known as JOSHUA (“Journeys Of Service Helping Upper Appalachia”),
it developed into a summer work experience for youth and adults
from around the country.
In
1997, the Steubenville Diocese and St. Anthony’s Parish provided
the former St. Anthony’s Convent to Urban Mission as the
first permanent housing accommodations for visiting Joshua work
teams. Joshua House (located at 249 S. Seventh Street in Steubenville)
has 12 bedrooms, 2 dining rooms, 2 sitting rooms, a fully furnished
kitchen and two dormitory-style bath facilities. Joshua House can comfortably accommodate
42 people.
In
2008, 16
groups (379 people) from Delaware, Illinois, Minnesota, New York and
all over Ohio completed 94 repair projects
for low-income home owners, community and Urban Mission.

Two site supervisors will work along side our work teams and
assist with coordinating the work sites.

Participation Schedule - 2009
We are currently in the process of booking weeks for the
2009 program. If you are interested in bringing your
group, please contact us at 740-282-8010.
Groups will be booked on a first come, first served
basis. A deposit is required in order to hold your
week. If your group is interested in a week that
has other participants, give us a call and we can work
together to schedule your group.
